This is a brief post to note down the key updates from Magento Live UK 2017 for those that weren’t there or maybe missed some of the goings-on.  This wasn’t necessarily the first time the below were announced, but many were ‘officially’ for the first time.

Magento Rebranding

The biggest news is that a few of Magento’s key products have undergone a name change:

  • Magento Community Edition is now Magento Open Source
  • Magento Enterprise Edition is now Magento Commerce
  • Magento Commerce Order Management is now Magento Order Management or MOM for short…

Don’t worry Magento Business Intelligence (formerly Magento Analytics / RJ Metrics) hasn’t changed again! 😉

Progressive Web Application (PWA)

Magento also announced collaboration with Google on integrating PWA support into Magento, with Paul Kinlan from Google providing an overview of the concept on stage at the event.

This is aimed for release in version 2.4.  No confirmation on whether this is for only Magento Enterprise Edition Commerce or Community Edition Open Source too.

There was a great roundtable discussion on this at the Dev Exchange session I attended and I’ll try to feed back more from this in another post.

Not officially announced, but the latest update on this one is that Magento 2 Developer certifications should be released this Autumn, with other certifications (Solutions Specialist, Sales) following sometime after (no tentative date given).

Magento Live UK 2018

The news here is that there will not be a Live event in the UK next year, nor in France.

Instead Magento announced Magento Live Europe, taking place on October 9-10th 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

There were a few other smaller announcements, such as an update on solution partner ‘badges’ (to be used in the upcoming new look partner directory to promote those agencies with specialist skills / disciplines), along with reassertion of Magento 2.2 still aiming for September release and Magento Advanced CMS still to come in 2.3.

If you have any further news you think is missing feel free to leave us a comment 🙂
